DROP IN ACCESS
AVAILABLE FOR PEOPLE WITH EXPERIENCE
With generous support from the Community Foundation of Lethbridge and Southwestern Alberta through the Varley Fund for Rural Life Grant, The Allied Arts Council of Pincher Creek is transitioning the Lebel Mansion Ceramics Studio to a drop in model.
For many years, the AAC, alongside a dedicated group of volunteers, has established the ceramics studio in the Lebel Mansion into a community hub for creativity.
Now, with help from the Varley Fund, the AAC is opening up the access of the studio for the benefit of the whole community. In the past few years, we've had increased requests to use the studio which is a positive reflection of the AAC's effect in community. In order to accomodate the increase in demand and provide increased access, the studio operating model is going through an overhaul.
What are the benefits of working with clay?
Community Connection
Participating in pottery classes or sharing the studio space fosters a sense of community. Interacting with fellow clay enthusiasts provides opportunities for learning, collaboration, and the exchange of ideas.
Fine Motor Skills
Manipulating clay involves precise hand movements, enhancing fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. This can be beneficial for individuals of all ages, particularly children and the elderly. We aren't saying it will come easily, clay teaches patience and humility, but it will be incredibly rewarding.
Cultivate Creativity
Clay provides a versatile medium for expressing artistic ideas. From functional pottery to abstract sculptures, working with clay allows individuals to explore and convey their creativity in a functional and unique way.
Mindfulness
Clay work requires focused attention on the present moment. The sensory experience of manipulating clay encourages mindfulness, allowing individuals to immerse themselves in the creative process and temporarily disconnect from stressors.
Art You Can Use
Discover the satisfaction of making art you can use, everyday. All too often, we hear people say, 'I'm not creative enough to make that.' One of the magical aspects of pottery is making something with your own hands that can follow you into daily life.
Be Proud of Yourself
Whether you're making mugs to use every morning, a bowl to serve a delicious meal out of or a unique sculpture to gift the grandparents, we guarantee you'll feel a tinge of pride in what you've accomplished.
But you won't know until you try!
